The former UNC basketball big man continues his strong season with another big performance to help lead Monmouth to victory.

When you get the opportunity, it’s important to make the most out of it. That’s exactly what Walker Miller has been doing this season.

After transferring from North Carolina after four years with the program, Miller was looking for an opportunity to play. Having an extra year of eligibility, Miller decided to commit to Monmouth, where he would have the chance to play for former UNC basketball standout King Rice.

So far, the decision has paid off not only for Miller but for the Monmouth basketball program as well.

Miller had another outstanding performance on Sunday night, as his game-high 22 points led the Hawks to a 76-63 victory over Quinnipiac. With the win, Monmouth improved to 15-7 on the season.

After not averaging more than 2.7 minutes per contest as a Tar Heel, Miller has seen a major increase in minutes this season. The former Tar Heel is averaging 31 minutes per game and has been one of the major contributors for Rice’s team.

Through 22 games, Miller is averaging 15.1 points per game, which is second on the team. He’s been efficient offensively, shooting 48.6 percent from the floor while shooting just under 78 percent from the free throw line. After not scoring in double digits as a Tar Heel, Miller has scored 10 or more points in 18 of the team’s 22 contests, including 10 of the last 11 games.

During his time in Chapel Hill, Miller was simply blocked in the rotation by some very talented big men. He didn’t earn the chance to play big minutes for the Tar Heels, but his hard work during his tenure with the program has certainly paid off for him.

Monmouth will look to make a push toward the top of the MAAC over the next few weeks in hopes of earning a bid to the NCAA tournament. In order to do that, they’ll need Miller to continue playing at a high level.
