The UNC basketball program is hosting the first of two matchups against hated rival Duke this season with a Saturday night showdown in the Dean Dome. It’s always the biggest game of the year when these two teams meet no matter what the records are and this year is no different.

Before the game, UNC fans got some surprising news when it was revealed that five-star recruiting target G.G. Jackson had a change of plans in his visit schedule. Jackson was originally scheduled to be in South Carolina to visit the Gamecocks program this weekend but instead he’s in the Dean Dome to watch the game.

Sports Illustrated’s Jason Jordan tweeted the news during the first half of the game as Jackson will now be on South Carolina’s visit next week instead.

While the first half hasn’t gone as planned for UNC and they find themselves trailing, this is some small good news for the program.

Jackson is UNC’s top recruiting target right now and they are locked in a recruiting battle with Duke, South Carolina and Georgetown to land him. He’s taken three official visits so far, going to Chapel Hill and also visiting Georgetown and Duke in the process. This is an unofficial visit but still it’s good to see him in the crowd to watch the game.

Jackson is likely getting closer and closer to making his decision and ending his recruitment and right now UNC does appear to be the team to beat in this recruitment. Can they hold off late charges from the Gamecocks, Duke and Hoyas?
