The recruiting push continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program for future classes.

With UNC set to enter conference play and the holiday season giving them a bit of a break, Davis and his staff had the chance to watch some prospects at a local tournament. The John Wall Invitational is a yearly event in the state of North Carolina that is one of the premier tournaments on the East Coast, featuring some of the top talent from across the country.

And this year was no different.

UNC staff including Davis and assistant Brad Frederick were in attendance on Monday afternoon and they were watching someone in particular. According to Pro Insight Scouting Director Andrew Slater, the Tar Heels were at the event watching Brewster Academy’s Matas Buzelis:

The 6-foot-9-inch, 175-pound small forward is a five-star prospect that is ranked No. 12 nationally, No. 4 small forward, and the No. 1 player in the state of New Hampshire per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Buzelis has a total of 13 offers so far and has been drawing significant interest from blue blood programs like Duke and Kentucky as well as other programs like Florida State and Wake Forest.

He’s taken visits to Florida State, Wake Forest, and Kentucky so far in his recruitment but Duke is also very much involved, visiting him over the past few months. While there hasn’t been much smoke surrounding UNC in this recruitment it doesn’t appear as if Davis and his staff are giving up anytime soon. However, the prospects of them landing him at this moment don’t appear to be in their favor.

Instead, it could be a battle between blue bloods with Florida State sitting in good position as well.

dark. Next. This 2024 recruit wants to visit UNC
