It’s not a secret that the UNC basketball program has made Gregory “G.G.” Jackson their top priority in the 2023 recruiting class. With one commitment landed in 2023, Hubert Davis and his staff are putting the full-court press on Jackson in hopes of landing him.

The talented prospect out of South Carolina is a five-star recruit that has drawn significant interest from a lot of programs. That includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Duke, and Georgetown among others.

But where does he stand in his recruitment?

UNC is considered the favorites right now to land him, picking up crystal ball predictions here in December. He even visited UNC for Late Night With Hubert Davis as Wilcher pledged his commitment that night. However, there appears to still be some time in his recruitment for other teams to make up ground.

Jackson talked to Rivals.com reporter Rob Cassidy about his recruitment and where things stand here at the end of the year. The recruit revealed that he does plan on cutting his list down to five and then will make a decision from there.

Here is what he told Cassidy about the Tar Heels and 2023 commit Simeon Wilcher who he could play alongside:

"ON NORTH CAROLINA“I feel like I have a pretty good relationship with coach [Hubert] Davis and the rest of the staff. They are telling me they want me to be that guy – the guy that comes in and gets in immediately. They are telling me that I match up well with Simeon [Wilcher]. Simeon is a good passing point guard, so I’ll be able to get the ball.”ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH WILCHER“I’ve watched him a lot and we’ve texted a couple times. That’s it. When he committed, I asked him what motivated him to commit to North Carolina. He told me it just felt like his home.”"

It’s hard not to feel good about UNC’s chances here in this recruitment. Really, the only thing standing in the way is a visit to Duke in January and a strong push from South Carolina in the coming weeks.

It doesn’t appear as if he’s ready to make the decision now which also hurts UNC but we still feel good about him ending up in Chapel Hill. It just feels like a matter of time.

Next. Tar Heels do make cut for 2023 point guard. dark
