UNC basketball recruiting has yet to see a decline with Roy Williams retired and first-year head coach Hubert Davis at the helm.

Just a day after the Tar Heels received their third Crystal Ball prediction in the recruitment of Gregory “G.G.” Jackson, they got their fourth. And this one, one that hit the site on Thursday and carried with it a high level of confidence (7/10), is from 247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting, Jerry Meyer.

That’s good news for a North Carolina program that’s already got one commitment from a five-star prospect in the class of 2023 — Roselle Catholic’s Simeon Wilcher — and would love to get a second. Jackson is among the nation’s best high school basketball players, and he’s tops in the state of South Carolina. He’s the 10th-ranked prospect in his class and the No. 3 power forward.

The Ridge View High School junior was tabbed as a potential UNC lean back in mid-October when Duke Insider Adam Rowe picked Chapel Hill as his eventual landing spot. That was the first of the four Crystal Ball picks that have come in for Jackson over the past two months, each of which has been in favor of the Tar Heels.

Also noteworthy in this particular recruitment is that Eric Bossi, 247Sports’ National Basketball Director, also believes that Jackson will end up in a Carolina uniform. Bossi has correctly picked 72-of-79 recruits’ destinations since joining the site and is 4-for-4 with members of the 2023 class.

Jackson has visited with the Tar Heels on a number of occasions, including a trip to the team’s Late Night festivities at the Smith Center in October when Wilcher committed to the program. Getting a commitment from Jackson will be no easy task, as the elite big man has a number of high-profile schools after him. Duke and Virginia are among them, and so are the hometown South Carolina Gamecocks.

Although Jackson’s commitment may still be a ways away, the Tar Heels are in a great position where things currently stand. They’ll, no doubt, continue to prioritize him over the coming months in hopes of adding him to an already strong recruiting class.
