The big men dominated for the UNC basketball program in their win over Furman, but it was sophomore Dawson Garcia who had the standout performance for the Tar Heels.

With a clear size advantage on the court, the goal for the UNC basketball program on Tuesday night was simple: feed the bigs, and feed them often.

The Tar Heels accomplished that goal, as they put together a collective front court dominance in a 13-point victory over Furman. The win marks the fifth consecutive victory for Hubert Davis’ squad.

Overall, the trio of Armando Bacot, Dawson Garcia and Brady Manek combined for 37 points, 28 rebounds and five assists. The Tar Heels big man core shot the ball very effectively, connecting on more than 57% of their shot attempts.

Although it would be easy to give all three a combined “Tar Heel(s) of the Game” award, we, unfortunately, had to choose just one. When you look at the three players, it was Garcia who was the standout performer for the UNC basketball program on Tuesday night.

Garcia got going right from the start, as he scored the first seven points of the night for the Tar Heels. Through five minutes of play, the sophomore forward was outscoring the Paladins 11-10.

Through Garcia’s early success, especially in the paint, the Tar Heels knew the game plan of feeding the big men was definitely the right approach.

Overall, the Prior Lake, Minnesota native scored a team-high 20 points on seven of 12 shooting from the floor. In the victory, Garcia also recorded his first double-double as a Tar Heel, as he collected 10 rebounds throughout the contest.

After going through a bit of a rough stretch, Garcia has looked really good over his last two contests. The Tar Heels hope that Garcia can continue building on his recent success, especially with the schedule getting tougher throughout the season.

This game marks the second time this season that Garcia has taken home the “Tar Heel of the Game” award. Which UNC basketball player will win it for the team’s huge Saturday matchup against UCLA?! We guess you’ll have to come back to find out!
