UNC Basketball Recruiting: Tar Heels commit climbs latest rankings
By Zack Pearson
The UNC basketball program sits at 7-2 overall in Hubert Davis’ first year and is on a four-game win streak following Saturday’s win against Elon. Davis and his staff are starting to build the foundation back up starting with this year’s roster.
But future recruiting classes, starting with 2022 will also be key to Davis’ success here at UNC.
UNC has landed four prospects in the 2022 recruiting class with Jalen Washington, Seth Trimble, Tyler Nickel, and Will Shaver all committing. While Washington is UNC’s highest-rated player right now, one player is starting to make some moves.
Recruiting site On3 released their updated rankings for players in the 2022 class and Trimble is one of the biggest risers in the update. He climbs from No. 42 to No. 34 overall, two spots behind Washington in the rankings. The duo are the two highest-rated players for UNC in the update.
While Trimble isn’t in the top 30 yet, he’s on the right pace.
The Wisconsin native is off to a hot start in his senior season and this trend he’s on could see him move up even more in the rankings as the year goes on. Trimble may not get to that five-star status but he should see a bigger boost in rankings before he arrives on campus.
As for the other two UNC commits in the rankings, Nickel checked in at No. 91 which is up eight spots from No. 99 and Shaver stayed put at No. 131. UNC as a team is now ranked 16th in the latest rankings adjustment which is down from where they were in the summer.
The good news is that there is still plenty of time to improve on these rankings both player and team.
