As the 2021-22 UNC basketball season continues to push on for Hubert Davis and his staff, recruiting will start to heat up for future classes here this Winter.

With a four-man class in 2022 that is ranked in the top 10, the Tar Heels are hoping to build on that class for 2023. So far, UNC has just one commitment in 2023 as Simeon Wilcher pledged his verbal back in October. Since then, rumors have swirled that the Tar Heels were close to landing five-star G.G. Jackson.

While that may still be the case, and Jackson is the Tar Heels top target, it doesn’t look like he’s going to make a commitment in the near future. Instead, Jackson is planning on taking more visits including to both Duke and Virginia.

Rivals.com reporter Jamie Shaw wrote on Jackson’s recruitment in his latest piece covering the Battle at the Rock event:

"Jackson’s recruitment has taken many twists and turns over the past two months. Strong rumors were circulating he would be committing to North Carolina at any moment. Since those rumors started, Jackson has continued to take visits to the likes of Georgetown, South Carolina, Virginia and Duke, while canceling his visit to the Tar Heels for the Michigan game. He says he is looking to set upcoming visits with Virginia and Duke with no commitment timetable set."

Shaw also notes that Jackson didn’t visit UNC for their home game against Michigan last week but that was due to his practice schedule being in the way.

The 6-foot-8 power forward out of South Carolina is ranked No. 10 nationally, the No. 3 power forward, and No. 1 player in the state per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. As it stands now, the crystal ball prediction is in favor of UNC as they picked up two predictions weeks ago following his visit.

The Tar Heels do appear to still be in the running for Jackson and are likely the leaders but with him taking visits to Virginia and Duke, that’s still not the greatest news.
