The UNC basketball program bounced back in grand fashion, as Caleb Love led the Tar Heels to a blowout victory over Michigan.

After a stretch in which they lost two of their last three contests, the UNC basketball program had a week to figure things out. The extended period of time paid off, as the Tar Heels came out and dominated No. 24 Michigan as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

The Dean Smith Center was simply rockin’ on Wednesday night, as the Tar Heels gave the fans plenty to cheer about. This was a statement win for North Carolina, as they desperately needed to get right before ACC play begins this weekend.

A few players put together a good effort in this one, but it was sophomore guard Caleb Love who led the charge.

Watching this game brought back reminders of Love’s performances against Duke last season. In big games, Love always tends to be more than ready for the occasion.

Love scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting. The St. Louis, Missouri native knocked down four of his seven three-point field goal attempts, as he made some tough shots while also rocking the rim with some explosive dunks.

Not only did Love impact the game with his scoring, but he also filled the stat sheet up nicely. He recorded four rebounds, four assists as well as three steals, as he simply was a major contributor throughout the 33 minutes he played.

During the early stretch of the season, the Tar Heels have had issues turning the ball over. In this game, Hubert Davis’ team did a much better job at protecting the ball, as they only turned the ball over six times. This is largely due to the duo of Love and fellow sophomore R.J. Davis, who did a tremendous job at controlling the pace of the game and the Tar Heels’ offensive attack.

We all know this team has a ton of talent, and there’s a chance this game could lead to the team figuring some things out. Needless to say, if the Tar Heels want to make that next step in the right direction, the play of Caleb Love will have a lot of impact on it.

Love joins Armando Bacot as the second UNC basketball player to earn multiple “Tar Heel of the Game” honors. Which Tar Heel will take home the award on Sunday after the team’s first conference game against Georgia Tech?! You’re going to have to check back with the Keeping It Heel team to find out!
