Is it possible that the former UNC baseball standout could be playing alongside his brother next season in Texas?

Corey Seager has been one of the early headlines throughout the beginning of the MLB offseason, as he inked a monster 10-year, $325 million contract with the Texas Rangers. The 27-year-old will relocate from Los Angeles to Texas in hopes of helping the Rangers become one of the top teams in the American League.

Along with his nice payday, is it possible that Seager could be playing alongside his brother during the 2022 season?

As we already know, former UNC baseball standout Kyle Seager is a free agent for the first time in his big league career. With a return to Seattle very unlikely, you’d have to think that this possibility could be an enticing one for both sides.

For starters, the older Seager has spent his entire career in the American League West division. He is very familiar with the territory and may look to remain there at this point in his career. As a bonus, the now 34-year-old is still a very capable player, and could be an impactful member of a club with aspirations of contending.

Based on their recent flurry of moves, the Rangers are definitely in “win-now” mode. They have now locked up their shortstop and second baseman of the future, but will probably look to add more to bolster the roster.

In the Rangers’ perspective, they could most likely reunite Corey and Kyle by offering the latter a short-term deal (given his age along with a recent decline in production). The former UNC baseball standout is chasing a coveted World Series ring, which will probably lead him towards signing with a contending ball club.

Needless to say, it would be a great story to see these two brothers playing alongside each other at the big league level. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but I think we should all be rooting for a deal between Kyle Seager and the Texas Rangers to be put in place at some point this offseason.
