Sam Howell

This week’s helmet sticker honorees once again ends with a guy who often is included on this list, but you simply can’t exclude him given how important he is to this Tar Heels team.

Another week, another standout performance for North Carolina’s QB1. Although he only threw for 216 yards and one score through the air, it was his performance through the running game that made a major difference.

Howell carried the ball 21 times for 104 yards and two scores. The Indian Trail, N.C. native made it very hard for Wake Forest to contain him, as his tough style of running made it difficult to bring him down.

Now in year three as the team’s quarterback, Howell has already added his name in the UNC football history books. With a few games left to play, the junior signal caller is not done re-writing the record books.

Move over Marquise Williams, Sam Howell is now the UNC football program’s career leader in total offensive yards.

Howell passed Williams on the list when he connected with tight end Kamari Morales on an 11-yard completion. As the game went on, Howell was able to add on to his total, and he’ll have a few weeks to add to his total offensive yards mark in a Tar Heel uniform.

It’s likely that Howell will be playing on Sundays next season, but Tar Heels fans should enjoy every single minute of watching this man play for North Carolina. When it’s all said and done, Sam Howell will go down as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Tar Heel uniform.
