Power Echols and Cedric Gray

The UNC football program suffered a major blow early on in this game, as defensive leader Jeremiah Gemmel was disqualified from the game for targeting.

Luckily for the Tar Heels, two of their young linebackers stepped up to fill the void.

Freshman Power Echols recorded a career-high seven tackles, including a quarterback hurry, as he filled in for Gemmel. Sophomore Cedric Gray also had a career-high 12 tackles, as he’s now recorded 11 of more tackles in three of the last four games.

The “next man up” mentality worked for the Tar Heels, as their young linebackers helped fill the void of a guy who is very important to their entire defensive scheme. The experience will pay dividends, as the UNC football program will most certainly be relying on them a lot in the near future.
