Josh Downs

Not only has Josh Downs emerged as the Tar Heels’ top wide receiver, he is also being regarded as one of the top players at his position in the entire country.

The sophomore from Suwanee, Georgia continues to thrive, as he served as the Tar Heels’ leading receiver once again. Against the Fighting Irish, Downs recorded 10 catches for 142 yards, making a highlight-reel catch on a 41-yard reception early in the game.

With his big game in South Bend, Downs recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the 2021 season. He also now has eight or more receptions in every game that the Tar Heels have played.

Downs is definitely fun to watch, as he’s able to make impact plays all over the football field. With teams now locking in on Downs in an effort to slow down his production, it’s crucial that Phil Longo and staff continue to find ways in which Howell can continue successfully connecting with his top receiver.

Yes, he’s still only a sophomore (and isn’t NFL Draft eligible until 2023), but with his play-making ability and game-changing speed, Downs has the potential to be one of the top wide receiver options in his future draft class.
