Ty Chandler

Ty Chandler has had his fair share of big plays this season for the UNC football program. On Saturday night, the senior running back added another major run to his highlight reel.

With the Tar Heels trailing heading into the third quarter, Chandler broke free on the following play to give his team their first lead of the night:

The 53-yard score was a momentum boost that North Carolina desperately needed at the time. It was yet another reminder that Chandler has come up big when his team has needed him the most.

His big-play ability is most certainly evident, as he now has four plays this year that have gone for 50 or more yards. It’s safe to say that Chandler has found his groove with his new squad.

Overall, Chandler carried the ball 15 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns. He became the first Tar Heel running back to score two rushing touchdowns against Notre Dame since Don Klochak accomplished the feat back in 1958.

The Nashville, Tennessee native has also set a new career-high in rushing yards, as he’s accumulated 671 rushing yards through the Tar Heels’ first eight contests. His previous career-best came in 2019, when he ran for 655 yards for Tennessee.

Can Chandler join the 1,000-yard single-season rushing club at North Carolina? Only time will tell. What we do know is that Chandler has been and should continue to be a major asset for this year’s Tar Heels team down the stretch.
