Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program is off to a good start in future recruiting classes as the calendar flips to November.

Davis and his staff have a four-man 2022 class in tact, plus have landed a commitment in the 2023 class as well. In 2024, UNC is starting to their homework early, identifying a few top targets.

And one of those targets was on campus for an unofficial visit this past weekend.

Small forward Ryan Jones Jr. was on UNC’s campus Friday for an unofficial, taking in Chapel Hill before heading to Raleigh to see N.C. State on Saturday. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound Jones does not have an offer from either program but elected to check out the programs while in the area.

Jones is a native of Gainesville, Florida is in his sophomore season at The Rock School. As of now, he does not have a rating on 247Sports, but is the No. 15 overall prospect in the initial Rivals 150 for the 2024 class.

The prospect is starting to gain a lot of attention in his recruitment as he enters an important sophomore year. He just won gold for Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Xalpala, Mexico and scored 16 points in the gold medal game.

As it stands right now, UNC has just one offer out in the 2024 class with that belonging to in-state prospect Jarin Stevenson. But with Jones on campus and UNC showing interest, it wouldn’t shock us to see the Tar Heels offer Jones down the line and be a legit contender in this recruitment. Him taking a visit was a good first step and this is a recruitment we will start to monitor now that there is some interest between both sides.
