The countdown for the start of the 2021-22 UNC Basketball season continues on as the program hosted their “Late Night” event on Friday to unofficially tipoff the season. At the event, Hubert Davis and his staff were able to host a few recruits including 2023 five-star G.G. Jackson and 2024 in-state forward Jarin Stevenson.

They also landed their first commitment in 2023 when Simeon Wilcher committed during the event.

But with Stevenson, North Carolina is starting to put. a big focus on the recruit and make him a legit priority. Stevenson got his offer from UNC a few weeks back as the Tar Heels officially entered the race for the power forward out of Chapel Hill.

Stevenson has a total of three offers so far with UNC, NC State  and Wake Forest being the three programs but others are also interested. Florida State and Virginia have also shown interest in him with visits to see him.

However, UNC appears to be the team showing the most interest early on and it’s starting with assistant Jeff Lebo who saw Stevenson play seven months ago and was impressed with the talent as the Fayobserver writes:

"That list included Jeff Lebo, who crossed paths with Stevenson in March when Northwood visited West Carteret in the 3-A state semifinals. Then a volunteer assistant coach for West Carteret, Lebo had one of the best seats in the house for the best game of Stevenson’s young career: 28 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, plus 16-18 shooting on free throws, to sink the Patriots almost single-handedly in overtime.Seven months later, Lebo is working for first-year UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis as an assistant. And Stevenson is shaping up as their top 2024 target, just 30 minutes south of Chapel Hill."

UNC has just one offer so far in the 2024 class, so they are able to start early with Stevenson in terms of their interest. After making an unofficial visit on Friday and another the week prior, it appears as if Stevenson does have mutual interest.

There’s a long ways to go in this recruitment and more teams will show interest but you have to feel like the Tar Heels are in a good spot early on here.
