UNC Basketball: Tar Heels land commitment from 5-star 2023 guard
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program are on the board in the class of 2023.
While the Tar Heels were hosting their unofficial start to the 2021-22 season with Late Night With Hubert Davis, they earned a big commitment from a five-star guard who just took a visit.
New Jersey native Simeon Wilcher officially pledged his verbal commitment to North Carolina on Friday night. Wilcher posted on Twitter that he is closing his recruitment and picking UNC:

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard is a five-star recruit that is ranked No. 14 nationally, No. 3 combo guard and the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey per the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He had a total of 14 offers in his recruitment and took two visits including one to North Carolina last weekend. The other visit he took was Nebraska the week before.
When it came down to it, Wilcher was a priority for the Tar Heels in the 2023 class and UNC put the full court pressure on him to land him. And it worked out.
Wilcher will stay in the 2023 class and not reclassify to 2022 despite some rumors. He also turned down a contract from Overtime Elite to go to college.
The Tar Heels now have a prospect committed and are off to a solid start in their 2023 class, the second under Davis. They still have several recruiting targets left including forward G.G. Jackson who is on UNC’s campus this weekend. The South Carolina native is a priority recruit as well for UNC and ideally they would love to land both when it’s all said and done.
