UNC Basketball Recruiting: Hubert Davis makes this 5-star a priority
By Zack Pearson
The pursuit of a key five-star recruiting target for the UNC Basketball program is starting to ramp up this Fall.
Hubert Davis and the staff at North Carolina welcomed five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher on campus this past weekend for his official visit. It was the first official visit for UNC this Fall as they continue to pursue their top targets in the 2023 class.
And for Wilcher, he’s just that — a top priority.
The entire coaching staff met with Wilcher during his weekend visit taking the time to talk to the recruit and show just how much they want him in Chapel Hill. It also drove a positive response from his father, Sergio, who seemed pleased with the visit to North Carolina.
Serigio spoke with Adam Zagoria of Zag’s Blog after the visit to give a brief recap of what went down on the visit. He offered up this interesting quote:
"“[He’s a] priority,” Sergio Wilcher said of his son Simeon. “He is what UNC is about on and off the court.”"
Wilcher’s father is now indicating that UNC is really putting the full court press on for Wilcher and making him one of their top priorities in the 2023 class. And that’s good news for UNC.
As it stands right now, UNC has their eyes on five-star guard Robert Dillingham, Wilcher and five-star forward G.G. Jackson as their top priorities in the class. Landing one would be great but Davis and his staff are shooting for all three.
The Roselle, New Jersey native is ranked No. 11 nationally, No. 2 combo guard and the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey per the 247Sports composite rankings. He has a total of 14 offers and does plan to visit Oregon, Syracuse and Maryland among others.
