One of the nation’s best guard prospects will be in town this week to visit the UNC basketball program.

The Tar Heels will host one of the nation’s best guard prospects this week when five-star class of 2023 recruit Simeon Wilcher visits Chapel Hill on Friday. Wilcher’s trip to the North Carolina campus represents his second official visit, the first being a trip to Nebraska on the weekend of October 1.

The Tar Heels officially joined Wilcher’s recruitment on October 3 when Hubert Davis and company extended him a scholarship offer. They joined the likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Memphis, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas Tech, UCLA and about a dozen other schools looking to nab the consensus top-20 prospect out of Roselle, New Jersey. I’d expect a number of other high-profile basketball programs to join the mix before all is said and done.

Wilcher, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard, spoke at length last week about his budding relationship with the Tar Heels and their new-look coaching staff, noting how excited he is to receive interest from college basketball’s blue bloods. Wilcher has given no real indication as to what program he’s most interested in at this point, and it could be quite some time before he does. He’ll presumably take a number of official (and potentially unofficial) visits prior to naming a list of finalists, and eventually a final decision.

Wilcher is the No. 11 prospect in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s second among players at his position, and No. 3 in the state of New Jersey. He’s ranked even higher in the Top247 at No. 6. The ESPN100 ranks Wilcher 12th overall, and the Rivals150 has him at No. 15.
