Chicago native and rapper Kanye West announced the creation of his new school in California, Donda Academy, named after his late mother who passed away in 2007. Fresh off his latest album titled ‘Donda’, West is set to open his new prep school in Simi Valley, California.

And he has intentions of building a top tier basketball program as well.

The school has been able to land some of the top recruits in the country over the past week or so, including a top UNC Basketball target.

Class of 2023 five-star guard Robert Dillingham opted to transfer out of the state of North Carolina and head to California. And he plans on attending Donda Academy:

Dillingham isn’t the only prospect that is headed there either. Former UNC target Zion Cruz, four-star forward Jalen Hooks and 2024 forward Jakhi Howard are also set to join the new program as is potentially Duke commit Kyle Filipowski and four-star Gus Yalden.

Now that’s a talented roster.

Donda Academy is hoping to rival powerhouse Sierra Canyon which is home to players like Amari Bailey and Bronny James. But easier said than done. Sierra Canyon is a prestigious program that has been a staple over the years with talented players coming through. It’s not impossible but Donda Academy has a lot of work to do and so far they are off to a great start.

As to what this means for recruitments, it’s tough to tell but Dillimgham leaving UNC’s backyard can’t be considered good news. Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels will continue to pursue Dillingham in hopes of landing him, they just have to do it across the country for the remainder of his recruitment.
