The top 2023 UNC Basketball recruiting target will no longer be in the Tar Heels’ backyard but the pursuit will continue on.

Five-star point guard Robert Dillingham is set to leave the state of North Carolina and play the final two years of his high school career in California. The Charlotte Observer reported on Thursday that Dillingham and his family have made the decision to move. He previously spent the past two seasons at Combine Academy in Charlotte where he developed into one of the top recruits in the country for the 2023 class.

But another rumor surfaced that Dillingham could be headed to play at Kanye West’s Donda Prep for the rest of his career:

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard is among the top prospects in the entire country for the 2023 recruiting class. He’s ranked No. 9 overall, the No. 2 point guard and No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Dillingham has been UNC’s biggest target since he received his offer back on Christmas Day  from Roy Williams. Since then, the Tar Heels have continued the pursuit with Hubert Davis taking over as head coach. And Davis has made it clear that Dillingham is a priority recruit.

UNC has yet to land a commitment in the 2023 recruiting class from a prospect but does have several offers out. The Tar Heels do have a really good 2022 class with four players committed and it should finish in the Top 5 when the cycle is done. However, building on that class and getting a really good 2023 class could be crucial for Davis early in his head coaching stint.
