UNC Basketball: Tar Heels, ACC schools targeting elite 2023 prospect
UNC basketball program among those in the Atlantic Coast Conference targeting rising five-star prospect
The North Carolina Tar Heels are among a growing group of Atlantic Coast Conference programs targeting five-star class of 2023 prospect Gregory “G.G.” Jackson.
Nearly a dozen schools in the 15-team conference have extended a scholarship offer to Jackson, with programs like Duke and NC State really turning up the heat in recent weeks. Blue Devils’ head coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer took two assistants to see Jackson over the weekend, and Wolfpack head coach Kevin Keatts and an assistant visited Jackson on Monday morning.
Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are also involved, hoping to reel in one of the nation’s top front court prospects. Jackson’s popularity on the recruiting trail isn’t just limited to ACC schools, as Alabama, Florida, Kansas and South Carolina are also in the hunt. The 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward has two-dozen scholarship offers in total, but I expect that number to increase in the coming months.
The Gamecocks and Tar Heels are considered by some to be early favorites in Jackson’s recruitment, though there’s plenty of time left for that to change. He’s already taken visits to Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, and he should stay busy taking trips and hosting visitors throughout his junior season. We also now know that Jackson is planning an upcoming trip to visit the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
Jackson is the No. 16 prospect in the class of 2023 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s third among power forwards in the class, and No. 1 in the state of South Carolina. He’s up to No. 10 in the Rivals150, while the ESPN100 has him a bit lower at 21st overall.
