Ja’Qurious Conley
On a night where it is hard to find many Tar Heels who performed well, Ja’Qurious Conley was one who most certainly stood out in this contest.
The sophomore from Jacksonville, N.C. first got in on the action when he recovered the Hokies fumbled that was forced by fellow teammate Trey Morrison.
In the third quarter, the Tar Heels offense turned the ball over on downs in a spot in which they really could’ve used some points. Thanks to Conley, North Carolina got the ball right back.
Hokies quarterback Braxton Burmeister looked to throw, but was rushed by a swarm of Tar Heel defenders. Burmeister threw the ball near where his intended target was, but was intercepted on an acrobatic play by Conley.
Although the Tar Heels did not capitalize on the turnover, it was still a very impressive play from the sophomore defensive back. Based on what we saw against Virginia Tech, Conley may find himself on this list plenty more times in the near future.
