The UNC Basketball program only has two realistic targets remaining in the 2022 recruiting class as we get set to enter the Fall season. But Hubert Davis and his staff are focusing their attention more and more on the 2023 class.
On Thursday morning, the Tar Heels added to their recruiting board in the 2023 cycle as they offered an intriguing five-star combo guard.
Adam Zagoria of Zag’s Blog reported that Roselle, New Jersey native Simeon Wilcher was the latest recruit to be offered by the Tar Heels in the 2023 cycle:
The 6-foot-5 combo guard now has a total of 13 offers in his recruitment as UNC joins Auburn, UCONN, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and Miami among other programs to offer. Both Duke and Kentucky have also shown interest but have not offered the talented prospect. Wilcher also recently turned down an invite to go pro with the Overtime Elite league, signaling that he will choose a college.
With the offer to Wilcher, UNC has now offered six prospects in the 2023 class as he joins Robert Dillingham, G.G. Jackson, J.J. Taylor, Mackenzie Mgbako and Matas Buzelis. He’s just the second guard to receive an offer, joining Dillingham.
UNC has established Dillingham as their top target but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t land Wilcher either. They do have a need in the backcourt after this season, especially with Caleb Love likely not being a four-year player. Ideally, they’d love to land both Dillingham and Wilcher in this 2023 class.
Wilcher is ranked No. 11 overall, the No. 2 combo guard and the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. There’s a long ways to go in this recruitment but it’s one we will continue to keep an eye on from a UNC perspective.
