The UNC Basketball program is starting to identify their top targets in both the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes as Hubert Davis continues on the recruiting trail. With a three-man class in 2022 and just two targets left, it’s never too early to take a look at 2023 prospects.

The biggest recruiting target for the 2023 class is five-star in-state recruit Robert Dillingham.

The point guard is among the top recruits in the entire 2023 class, ranking No. 10 overall and the No. 2 player at his position per the 247Sports composite rankings. UNC offered Dillingham back on Christmas Eve and since then, they have continued to put the full court press on him hoping to eventually land the recruit.

While Dillingham’s recruitment continues on, the point guard picked up some honors over the weekend playing with Team USA.

Team USA captured their seventh-straight FIBA Americas U16 Championship this past weekend in Xalapa, Mexico taking down Argentina 90-75 in the final on Sunday. After going 6-0 in the tournament, Team USA was able to put it away and it was in large part due to the play of Dillingham.

The point guard finished with 31 points on Sunday night setting USA single-game U16 scoring record, including going 5 of 11 from the 3-point line. For the tournament, Dillingham averaged 15.7 points and 6.2 assists per game, an impressive stat on a loaded team.

While Dillingham did finish the game 9-of-29, the scoring ability is there and that should intrigue UNC fans moving forward.

As it stands now, the Tar Heels do appear to be the team to beat in this recruitment despite programs like Duke, Kansas and Texas showing interest of late. The latest buzz suggests that the only team that can beat UNC in this race is the professional route. There’s still a long ways to go in this recruitment and it’s one we will continue to keep our eye on.
