The UNC Football program opens up their much-anticipated 2021 season on Friday night with a trip to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech.

Coming off an Orange Bowl appearance last season, the expectations are high for Mack Brown’s team in his third year back. And rightfully so as many believe the Tar Heels can be a team to challenge Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

But first things, first as the Tar Heels need to take care of business on Friday night in Blacksburg, a game in which they will open as 5.5-point favorites.

With the season getting underway this week, the win totals for each team including the Tar Heels have been set. Our friends over at WynnBet have released their win totals and UNC comes in at 9.5 for the season. That’s the second-highest number in the ACC behind only Clemson who is at 11.5.

The Tar Heels do face a somewhat tough schedule with a early road game at Virginia Tech, a home matchup with what should be a good Miami team and then a road trip to Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish. Overall, their non-conference schedule isn’t that tough aside from the Notre Dame game, facing Georgia State and Wofford. Florida State, which is the Tar Heels ACC crossover game,  could provide some trouble for the Tar Heels, beating them last season in Tallahassee.

Getting off to a good start early this season will be key for those betting the over. A win over the Hokies would be a great start especially as that is one of their three toughest games.

As for the rest of the ACC, Miami is right behind UNC at 9 with Boston College, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest all at 7 wins. Duke is at 3.5 while N.C. State is at 6.5.
