It’s finally game week for the UNC Football program as they get set to head to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech in the 2021 season opener. Mack Brown and his Tar Heels enter this season with high expectations following an appearance in the Orange Bowl a year ago.

Led by Sam Howell and a defense that made strides last season, the Tar Heels have plans of challenging Clemson for the Atlantic Coast Conference title. But first things first, they have to take care of business on Friday night against the Hokies.

From our friends over at WynnBet, the Tar Heels will enter this season as 5.5 point favorites in Friday’s game at Virginia Tech. That’s a one-score spread and usually the home team does get 3 points, so this could be a 8.5-point spread if you’re looking at it that way.

The two teams have split their previous two meetings with both games being exciting ones including a 6OT Hokies win in 2019. The Tar Heels held off the Hokies 56-45 in Chapel Hill to move to 3-0 on the year.

While UNC enters this season with College Football Playoff hopes, the Hokies are just trying to get back on track.

They finished the 2020 season 5-6 overall including 5-5 in ACC play. It was a down year for the Hokies as they are in a phase where they are trying to rebuild up the program on the fly under Justin Fuentes. The Hokes get a shot to pull off the upset early in the season with No. 10 North Carolina coming into town for a Friday night showdown.
