UNC Baseball: Kyle Seager hits career-best 31st home run
The former UNC baseball standout has set a new personal career high for home runs in a single season.
Kyle Seager has been around Major League Baseball for quite some time now. In fact, the former UNC baseball standout recently accrued 10 years of MLB service time, a feat that is definitely not easy to accomplish.
Over his professional career, Seager has had a ton of success. Now, at the age of 33 with 1,450 career games under his belt, the former Tar Heel continues to thrive at a high level.
On August 29, Seager set a single-season personal record, as he hit his 31st home run of the season. This homer helped him surpass his previous career high of 30 back in 2016.
Seager is no stranger to hitting home runs, as he has now hit 20 or more homers in nine seasons. If not for a shortened season in 2020, it’s very likely that we’d be talking about how he possibly could’ve accomplished the feat in 10 straight seasons.
With the Mariners still very much in the American League Playoff race, Seager and his team have a lot to play for over the last month of the season. As Seager looks to increase his career-high in homers, he’ll also strive to help the Mariners end their 19-year playoff drought, which is the longest among North American sports teams.
Seager’s future is uncertain, as the Mariners hold a team option for 2022. While it is likely that the club will not pick up the option, Seager’s play over the next month or so could help change their minds or impress another club that hopes to sign him once he hits the free agent market for the first time in his career.
