UNC Baseball: Colin Moran thriving since return from injury

Since his return from injury, the former UNC baseball standout has put together an impressive month of August for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

On June 28, Colin Moran was hit by a pitch that forced him to leave the game. It was revealed that the former UNC baseball standout suffered a left wrist fracture, an injury that would sideline him for an extended period of time,

Moran missed the entire month of July, but was able to rehab the injury in order to return to the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup at the early part of August. Ever since he returned to action on August 5, the 28-year-old has been on an absolute tear.

Over 21 games played, Moran has posted a slash line of .299/.338/.463. The left-handed hitting third baseman has slugged three homers and driven in 10 RBIs over his 67 plate appearances.

Moran has five multi-hit games during the last month of play, including a four hit performance against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 28. Heading into the Pirates upcoming series against the Chicago White Sox, the former Tar Heel is currently riding a four-game hit streak.

Although the 2021 season has been yet another rebuilding year for the Pirates, Moran has been a bright spot in the team’s everyday lineup. In 70 games played, Moran is hitting .286, which is second-best on the Pirates’ active roster. His seven home runs also rank among the top five on the team so far this season.

Even though he was forced to miss an extended period of time, it’s great to see that the former UNC baseball standout was able to get right back on track upon his return. We’ll have to wait and see if Moran can continue his success throughout the upcoming final month of the regular season.
