The race for a four-star forward in the 2022 recruiting class has come to an end and it’s bad news for the UNC Basketball program.

As expected, Nebraska native Isaac Traudt made his decision on Saturday morning and opted not to head to Chapel Hill. Instead, he’s going to an Atlantic Coast Conference rival in Virginia.

Traudt officially pledged his verbal commitment to the Cavaliers, ending his recruitment:

The four-star recruit picked Virginia over a total of 32 offers and a final list of UNC, Virginia, Michigan State and Nebraska. He took visits to all four programs this Summer before making this decision. While Traudt was a target of UNC’s for a long time, in the end it became clear that Virginia was the team to beat in this one.

With Traudt off the board, UNC’s 2022 class targets list is starting to shrink. It does appear that Hubert Davis and his staff has two big targets left in Cam Whitmore and Tyler Nickel, both who are expected to make their decisions this Fall. The Tar Heels do have three commits and a Top 5 class as it stands now but they want to finish this cycle off strong in the coming months.

Virginia has now locked in three verbal commitments and the No. 4 class in the nation and No. 2 class in the ACC behind only UNC.
