The UNC Football program will soon find out their fate for a key five-star target in the 2022 recruiting class as his commitment is coming to an end.

With speculation that defensive tackle Travis Shaw was ready to make a decision over the past few weeks, the talented recruit teased a potential date on Monday. But on Tuesday morning, Shaw revealed that he wasn’t just teasing but indeed is ready to make a decision.

Shaw told 247Sports that he is ready to make a decision and will commit to a program on August, 21st at 6 p.m. during a special ceremony at his high school. The top recruit is down to North Carolina, Georgia, Clemson, and North Carolina A&T.

The announcement of a decision might just be great news for the Tar Heels as timing appears to be just right.

Shortly after Shaw announced his decision date, the Tar Heels picked up two big crystal ball predictions on 247 Sports. National recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong logged his prediction for the Tar Heels with a confidence of 6 and shortly after that, Clemson insider Anna Hickey logged hers for the Tar Heels at a confidence of 8. Although a crystal ball prediction is no guarantee, getting one from two insiders like Wiltfong and Hickey is great news for UNC.

Shaw is a Greensboro, North Carolina native that is entering his senior year at Grimsley High School. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound prospect is ranked No. 3 overall, the No. 2 defensive lineman and the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina.

Landing Shaw would give Mack Brown his biggest commitment since taking over back in December of 2018. It would also boost UNC’s 2022 class from inside the Top 20 to likely inside the top 10.
