UNC Basketball: Hubert Davis offers intriguing 2023 forward
By Zack Pearson
The past few days have been big for Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program in terms of sending out new offers.
In the past three days, the Tar Heels have now offered three different prospects in the 2023 class as they have expanded their recruiting board a bit. After offering five-star recruits J.J. Taylor and Mackenzie Mgbako earlier in the week, Davis has now offered four-star small forward Matas Buzelis.
The Chicago-area native now plays at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire and is the fifth player in the 2023 class to earn an offer from the Tar Heels, joining the previously mentioned two along with Robert Dillingham and G.G. Jackson.
The 6-foot-10, 178-pound Buzelis is ranked No. 33 overall, the No. 8 small forward and the No. 2 player in the state of New Hampshire per the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s originally from Illinois and was a standout on the Mac Irvin AAU team where he impressed in the live evaluation period.
So far in his recruitment, Buzelis has a total of 8 offers including recent ones from Purdue, Oklahoma and Arizona in the month of July. Illinois, Kansas and DePaul are among other schools that have also offered in his recruitment. Being a 2023 recruit, there is still a long ways to go in his recruitment including more official visits down the line. The recruit unofficially visiting Purdue a few weeks back and with UNC offering, he could be heading to Chapel Hill before his recruitment comes to an end.
Buzelis is a prospect we will keep our eye on moving forward as UNC starts to build up their targets in the 2023 recruiting class.
