Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have their sights set on a new recruiting target, extending a scholarship offer to J.J. Taylor on Wednesday.

Kenwood Academy’s J.J. Taylor is the latest player to receive a scholarship offer from Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels. News of the offer broke late Wednesday night, as Taylor became the fourth prospect from the class of 2023 to hold an offer from North Carolina. Taylor joins Robert Dillingham, G.G. Jackson and Mackenzie Mgbako as high school juniors currently being targeted by the Tar Heels.

Taylor, a 6-foot-8, 185-pound small forward from Chicago, Illinois, is one of the most highly sought after players in the 2023 class, and arguably the best at his position. Taylor is the third-ranked player in the 2023 class and first among wings, that according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s No. 8 overall in the Top247, and second at the small forward position. In both cases, however, Taylor is the top prospect from the state of Illinois.

The rising wing already has over a dozen scholarship offers, including all four blue bloods and a number of other top hoops programs. Along with Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina, Taylor has offers from Florida, Gonzaga, Illinois, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Texas, among others. And it wouldn’t be shocking to see his list grow exponentially over the next year.

That’s due, in part, to the young man’s tremendous length and athleticism. He runs the basketball court like a gazelle, and he frequently gets up for powerful finishes at the rim. He can score from inside and out, and looks for open teammates as well. I wouldn’t be shocked if Taylor only stays in college for one year, or takes the professional route from day one — he’s got that much talent and upside.

It’s too early in Taylor’s recruitment to have any kind of realistic prediction where he might end up, but we’ll continue to follow it in the coming months.

According to Walker Kessler, this is why he left UNC. dark. Next
