The UNC football program has earned some high preseason praise from members of the media.

This week, the media members who cover the ACC will release their preseason voting results. Prior to awarding the ACC Preseason Player of the Year as well as the Preseason All-ACC team selections, the committee announced their projected team standings for the 2021 season.

The UNC football program was tabbed as the favorite to win the ACC Coastal Division. Mack Brown’s team earned a total of 979 points, which also included securing 109 of the possible 147 first-place votes.

Along with being voted as the favorite to win their respective division, the Tar Heels also earned the second-most votes to win the 2021 ACC Championship. North Carolina only trailed Clemson in this respective category.

There is a lot to look forward to in Chapel Hill this fall. Since Brown returned to campus, the UNC football program has had a major turnaround. Just two years removed from a two-win season, Brown and the Tar Heels made a trip to the Orange Bowl during the 2020 campaign, just showing how remarkable the turnaround has been.

The 2021 squad has a lot of familiar faces returning. Along with Heisman Trophy candidate Sam Howell, North Carolina returns 21 of the 22 players who started in last year’s Orange Bowl. Additionally, Brown and his staff has added a top-15 recruiting class to add to the program’s talent depth.

Only time will tell, but this team has the talent and ability to make yet another leap this upcoming season. If all goes as planned, the Tar Heels will be in the National Championship conversation come the end of the regular season.
