The legendary retired UNC basketball coach will make a special appearance on this year’s ESPYS.

Each year, the ESPYS are held to celebrate the best moments from the past year in sports. This year, the UNC basketball program will be well-represented at the event.

In an ESPN press release, it was announced that legendary retired head coach Roy Williams will be a presenter at this year’s event. The former Tar Heel coach headlines a list of presenters that also includes the likes of Joe Namath and Robin Roberts.

It’s fitting that Williams was asked to present at this year’s ESPYS. Williams decided to retire from coaching, as this past calendar year marked the final season of his illustrious 33-year career.

Williams will go down as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all-time. Coaching at both Kansas and North Carolina, Williams finished his career with 903 wins, 18 conference championships, 9 Final Four appearances as well as three National Championships.

The ESPYS is a show that is dedicated to talking about the greatest moments in sports, and Williams’ career and final season on the sidelines definitely deserve some recognition. Although he may not be at the helm anymore, Williams will most certainly continue to represent the UNC basketball program with pride as he makes this special appearance.

This year’s ESPYS are scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 10 from The Rooftop at Pier 17 at the Seaport in New York City. The show will air live on ABC, and is scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET.

Tar Heels fans: make sure you mark this on your calendars. You definitely won’t want to miss Williams’ appearance!
