The Duke-North Carolina rivalry continues, as the two programs will battle it out to get a commitment from this top Class of 2022 talent.

On September 11, 2020, the UNC basketball program made an official offer to five-star Class of 2022 recruit Mark Mitchell.

The six-foot-eight small forward from Wichita, KS ranks among the best players in his graduating class. Currently, 247 Sports Composite has Mitchell as the No. 10 player overall, while also ranking him as the best player out of the state of Kansas.

North Carolina has been in the mix for Mitchell’s commitment for a while now, however, it is their biggest rival who is currently making all the headlines in the five-star’s recruitment process.

On Monday, the Duke Blue Devils joined in on the mix, as they made an official scholarship offer to Mitchell. Additionally, it was announced that the five-star small forward is scheduled to make an official visit to Durham on June 28.

Along with Mitchell, Duke also extended an offer to Gregory “G.G” Jackson on Monday, another player that Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels have reportedly been targeting.

In case you didn’t already know, the Duke-North Carolina rivalry goes well beyond the basketball court. It’s very often that the two teams battle it out to land top recruits, and these two instances are very similar to what we’ve seen in the past.

It will be interesting to see what type of role these two Blue Bloods play in Mitchell’s recruitment. With North Carolina turning over the reins to Hubert Davis, along with Duke set to hand the keys to their program off to Jon Scheyer (who has been recruiting Mitchell), it may have a say in this recruit’s final decision.
