UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer four-star forward
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and the rest of the UNC Basketball staff have been on the recruiting trail this weekend, evaluating recruits at events. We already told you about Davis watching five-star target Dereck Lively II and now he has his eyes on another prospect in 2022.
Davis has been at the Mid-Atlantic Individual School shootout for the weekend and on Saturday, he was impressed with a four-star forward.
Maryland native Cam Whitmore did enough to not only impress the Davis but also earn an offer as well. The recruit announced on Saturday night that the Tar Heels are the latest team to offer him in his recruitment, posting this message via Twitter:
The 6-foot-6-inch, 200-pound Whitmore hails from Severn, Maryland and has a total of 17 offers in his recruitment. Programs like Maryland, Florida, Villanova and Penn State have been the top teams pursuing him but now a blue blood like UNC could change his recruitment a bit.
Whitmore is ranked No. 111 overall, No. 31 forward and the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
With one player committed in 2022, Davis is hoping to build up his first recruiting class as new head coach. Whitemore is the 13th player to earn an offer from UNC in this 2022 cycle with two others being committed to other programs.
UNC has already hosted a handful of recruiting targets here in June from the class and with Whitmore getting an offer, we imagine he will want to try to get to Chapel Hill at some point this Summer or Fall. Whitmore is now a recruit we will certainly be keeping an eye on in the next few months in terms of a visit and the interest that the Tar Heels are showing.
