Hubert Davis and his UNC Basketball staff are still working in both the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes with the restrictions on visits lifted. So far, the Tar Heels have been able to land one recruit in the 2022 class following a recent visit.

But for 2023, the Tar Heels have yet to get on the board and Davis is hoping to change that.

UNC has sent out three offers in the 2023 class, with the most recent coming Tuesday to G.G. Jackson, but one recruit is standing out as a top target. Five star in-state combo guard Robert Dillingham as been not only UNC’s top target but he’s arguably their most important target for future classes.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard received his offer from Roy Williams on Christmas Eve but since then, Davis and the Tar Heels have kept up the pursuit. Dillingham had an impressive sophomore season at Combine Academy and on the showcase circuit as well. And for his play, he’s now being rewarded with a rankings boost.

In the latest updated Rivals100 recruiting rankings for the 2023 class, Dillingham was a riser as he moved up from No. 12 overall to No. 8.

Getting into that Top 10 is a big accomplishment for Dillingham as his recruitment continues on this Summer.  The recruit is also drawing more attention from big name programs too receiving offers from Texas and Tennessee as well as interest from both Duke and Kentucky.

As it stands now, the Tar Heels do hold the lead in the 247Sports crystal ball ranking and are considered the favorites if he goes the college route. But even with Blue Bloods contacting him, North Carolina’s toughest opponent in this recruitment might be the pro route as Dillingham has the talent to make that jump instead of going to college. However, for now things look good in this recruitment for the Tar Heels.
