While the focus this month for Hubert Davis and his UNC Basketball staff has been on 2022 recruits with official and unofficial visits, the Tar Heels are still keeping an eye on future recruits as well.

So far, UNC has just one commitment in the 2022 class with three-star center Will Shaver pledging his verbal following his visit in early June. Building that class will be the focus and adding another good one in 2023 could be key to success for Davis in his first few years as head coach.

One recruit that many are considering a “must get” for the Tar Heels is five-star combo guard Robert Dillingham.

The 2023 recruit is starting to see his stock rise after an impressive sophomore season and at showcase tournaments. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Dillingham has 10 offers in his recruitment, landing one from UNC back on Christmas. Since then, other teams have gotten involved including offers from Texas and Tennessee in May.  But even with those offers the Tar Heels appear to still be the favorites.

In his latest piece for 247 Sports, recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer was asked who are the current leaders for Dillingham in his recruitment. He offered an answer that should make UNC fans happy:

"A five-star prospect out of Charlotte (N.C.) Combine Academy, Robert Dillingham is considered the No. 2 point guard in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite.North Carolina is considered the strong favorite for him. There are currently three predictions in his Crystal Ball and all three are UNC. Tennessee and Texas both offered him in May."

UNC currently holds all three crystal ball predictions on 247Sports as has held them for months now, a good sign. It does feel safe to say that UNC is the favorite if Dillingham does go the college route and their biggest competition might just be the pro route.

Dillingham is a very talented prospect and is one of the top recruits in the 2023 class. He has the talent to go pro and with other top recruits taking the G-League route or Overtime League route, UNC should be at least a little worried that it’s an option.

There’s still a long ways to go in Dillingham’s recruitment and he’s obviously a name UNC fans should keep an eye on.

Next. Is UNC putting the full court press on this 4-star forward?. dark
