UNC Basketball: Tar Heels ‘standing out’ to this four-star 2022 prospect
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program are starting to prioritize their recruiting targets in future classes including 2022. As of now, UNC is set to host three prospects in that 2022 for visits in June, setting up a big recruiting month for the Tar Heels.
One of those prospects is four-star forward Justin Taylor out of Virginia who is set to visit North Carolina on the weekend of June 5-6. It will be a busy month for Taylor who is also set to visit Virginia Tech (June 3), Syracuse (June 9-10), Indiana (June 15-16) and could visit other schools as well.
But with Taylor going into a big month of June in terms of visits, where do things stand with his recruitment?
Chris Arvin of 247Sports recently caught up with Taylor earlier this week to talk about the latest in his recruitment. The Virginia native is a high priority for all three programs and we could be heading towards a big Atlantic Coast Conference battle here as his recruitment goes on. In the interview, Taylor broke down which programs are standing out the most:
"“Virginia Tech is definitely up there right now. Syracuse as well. North Carolina, Indiana, and Virginia are also right up there. I haven’t really narrowed down my list yet but those are the five that are sticking out and reaching out the most.”"
As you see above, UNC is one of a few teams that are standing out with Indiana being the lone non-ACC team on that list. That’s certainly good news for the Tar Heels as they will have their chance to impress Taylor in a few weeks.
The small forward would fit a need for the Tar Heels on the wing as the 6-foot-6, 200-pound Taylor is a legit scorer that can beat you from almost anywhere on the court. Taylor is ranked No. 87 overall, No. 21 at his position and No. 5 in the state of Virginia per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Following his June visits, it appears as if Taylor will be ready to make a decision sometime at the end of July or in August per the interview. So he’s certainly a player we will keep our eyes on as the weeks go on.
