Former UNC basketball standout Coby White is going with a fresh, new look this summer, cutting off his signature locks just days after the completion of the 2020-21 NBA season.

We thought once before that Coby White had traded in his patented hairstyle for a fresh, new look, but it turned out to be no more than a popular Snapchat filter intended to make a person look as if they had a clean-shaven head.

This time, however, it’s true; White has cut off his signature locks, making the second-year Chicago Bull nearly unrecognizable in comparison to the look we’ve all grown so accustomed to. The former Tar Heel point guard made his new ‘do public via Instagram on Tuesday night, shocking UNC fans and Chicago fans alike, Go ahead, see for yourself:

White closed out his sophomore campaign on a high note on Sunday night, scoring 19 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists in a 118-112 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. It was White’s 15th double-digit scoring game in his last 16, a stretch in which he scored at least 21 points on five occasions. He also recorded at least five assists 12 times during that span while playing nearly 34 minutes per game.

For the season, White averaged numbers slightly better than he did during his rookie run with the Bulls. His scoring went up from 13.2 points per game to 15.1, while marginally improving both his overall shooting percentage (39.4 to 41.6) and his three-point accuracy (35.4 to 35.9). He also became one of the league’s most accurate free throw shooters with a 90.1 percent mark at the line, that number up a staggering 11 percent from last year.

Things are looking up for White, and I don’t think his hairstyle now, or in the future, will have any impact on that. Under the direction of first-year Chicago head coach Billy Donovan, White worked through his sophomore struggles and reestablished himself not only as a starter for the Bulls, but as one of their biggest impact players.
