With Spring practices over, the next step is Fall training camps ahead of the 2021 college football season and with the hype surrounding the UNC football team, it should be a fun one to watch this year.

While we await those practices, one thing to keep an eye on as we hit Summer will be the recruiting trail. The NCAA will lift restrictions in June, allowing for official visits between recruits and coaches for the first time since early 2020. The Tar Heels already have a few visits lined up and more could be coming as Mack Brown and his staff are hoping for a big 2022 class next year.

On Friday, the program received some good news in regards to one recruiting target.

Four-star running back George Pettaway made an update to his recruitment, cutting his list of 26 offers down to just 10 schools. Pettaway will focus on these programs for the remainder of his recruitment: North Carolina, Michigan, Penn State, Ole Miss, Florida, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Auburn, Oregon and Virginia.

The Suffolk, Virginia native is one of the top players in the 2022 class, ranked No. 97 overall, No. 6 running back and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

As for his recruitment, right now it appears as if the Tar Heels are the favorites as they hold the lone prediction on the crystal ball. That prediction came from national analyst Steve Wiltfong back on Christmas Eve. If UNC was able to land Pettaway, it would be another recruit from the 757 area code in Virginia, a place the Tar Heels have found success over the years including Dazz Newsome and Tony Grimes.

Pettaway has visits lined up to both Michigan and Penn State but we’d be shocked if he wasn’t on UNC’s campus at some point this Summer.
