The UNC football program is set at quarterback for the upcoming 2021 season with Sam Howell returning for his third year. Howell enters this season as a Heisman trophy favorite and should hear his name called early in the 2022 NFL Draft.

After Howell, the Tar Heels have both Drake Maye and Jacolby Criswell waiting in the wings and one will be the starter for the 2022 season. But the future of the position still needs to be addressed and one intriguing prospect could be on their radar.

Class of 2023 five-star quarterback Arch Manning is one of the top prospects in that class not only overall but at his position as well. Manning is the son of Cooper, nephew of Eli and Peyton and the grandson of Archie, so there’s football bloodlines with him. While Manning has that connection, he’s trying to create his own legacy and so far, he’s doing a good job.

Manning has a total of 11 offers including one from North Carolina as the top programs in the country like Alabama, LSU, Georgia and more are after him. There’s still a long way to go until Arch makes his decision but this Summer is set to be shaping up as a big one as he already has visits to Clemson, SMU, Texas, Alabama and Georgia in June.

But could Manning make a trip to Chapel Hill for a visit?

Lead recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports wrote a good piece on Manning and where he stands right now, talking to his father Cooper in the process. In that article, Cooper mentions North Carolina as a potential destination for his son to visit:

"“On the heels of that I think there will be a time he wants to see Virginia (where his older sister will attend school) and North Carolina too. He’s been to LSU and he’s been to Ole Miss. We’ll figure out, hopefully whether it be in July, go see some schools, maybe it’s in the dead period but at least you can go see some things out there. Then August boom you’re in summer practice and it gets harder.”"

Now that’s interesting.

The Tar Heels have offered Manning but if they want any shot at him, they have to make up some ground as programs like Alabama, LSU, Tennessee and Georgia might be the frontrunners in this race right now. Still, it’s good news to be mentioned in the article and the Tar Heels getting a visit would be even better.
