UNC Basketball: A prospect to keep an eye on for the Tar Heels
By Zack Pearson
New UNC Basketball head coach Hubert Davis is doing his homework on recruiting targets for future classes despite not being able to hit the road to visit prospects. But with that rule changing by the NCAA in June, things will start to heat up.
North Carolina is starting to prioritize recruits on their board for the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes, hoping to land some big prospects and set the program up nice for the future. While we know names like Jaden Bradley, De’Ante Green, Issac Traudt, Chris Livingston and Robert Dillingham for future classes, there’s another prospect that UNC fans should get familiar with.
Class of 2024 power forward Jarin Stevenson is a Chapel Hill, North Carolina native that just wrapped up his first season with Northwoods High School this past year and he’s starting to see his recruitment take off a bit. The 6-foot-8, 190-pound Stevenson helped lead Northwoods to a runner-up finish in the 3A state championship game and for his efforts all season, he earned third team All-District honors.
It’s still very early in Stevenson’s recruitment with him being a freshman, but it’s a name that UNC fans should keep an eye on because he’s an in-state prospect that should generate some interest from Davis and his staff.
Inside Carolina recruiting analyst Sherrell McMillan quote tweeted those thoughts over the weekend, suggesting that UNC fans really start to pay attention to Stevenson’s recruitment:
Stevenson is currently playing in AAU events and recently participated in the Big Shots’ Rock the Rock event over the weekend.
As of now, Stevenson doesn’t have any offers and coaches cannot contact prospects in the 2024 recruiting class but as time goes on, this is certainly a prospect that we should monitor especially if he keeps getting better as the years go on.
