As things start to get back to normal in terms of recruiting, this Summer will be a big one for Hubert Davis and his UNC Basketball program.

North Carolina is already expecting a visitors in June as the NCAA will lift restrictions for the first time in 14 months. But more visits could be coming and coaches will also be able to evaluate talent at AAU events.

While Davis and his staff have started to identify their top targets in the 2022 recruiting class, they are also getting a head start for 2023. And their top target in that class is five-star in-state prospect Robert Dillingham.

The point guard is a Charlotte, North Carolina native and he’s seen his recruitment take off a bit here in the past few months. Dillingham received his offer from North Carolina and Roy Williams on Christmas, and sense then the Tar Heels have been the rumored favorites. But there is still a long way to go in his recruitment and Dillingham is keeping his options open including a potential move to the G-League.

Over the weekend, Dillingham participated in the KC Classic where he was labeled a day one standout and after he caught up with 247Sports recruiting analyst Travis Branham to talk about his recruitment. In the interview, Dillingham spoke on UNC and where things stand with the Tar Heels:

"“Yeah, we [Hubert Davis and Dillingham] talked and he was just telling me even though Roy [Williams] isn’t there he still wants me just as bad and he will want me there and wishes I could re-class up and come there. I feel like he is a cool dude.”"

The good news is that judging by the comment, UNC is really putting the fullc ourt press on Dillingham in hopes of bringing him to Chapel Hill. That’s even more evident with the comment about having him re-classify to 2022.

At this point, it’s very clear that Dillingham is arguably the most important target for UNC in 2022 or 2023 moving forward. Landing an in-state talent like him who is ranked No. 11 overall would be huge.

Next. UNC fans should keep an eye on this prospect in 2024. dark
