UNC Basketball: Two recruiting targets stand out at event
By Zack Pearson
While recruiting will get back to normal beginning in June, players across the country have been participating in AAU events as the games roll on. And one in particular event this weekend, two UNC Basketball recruiting targets are already making an impression.
The KC Classic event tipped off Friday night in Kansas City with hundreds of players participating in the Grassroots Basketball cycle. The three-day event will showcase some of the top talent on the AAU cycle as recruits look to up their stock and impress analysts in attendance.
Two UNC recruits have already done that early on.
Class of 2022 five-star forward Chris Livingston and class of 2023 five-star guard Robert Dillingham caught the eye of 247Sports recruiting analyst Eric Bossi on night one as he recapped the opening of the event. Bossi spoke highly of both Livingston and Dillingham in the article.
Here is what he wrote on Livingston who is playing for We All Can Go:
"Moving on to We All Can Go, Livingston is currently ranked No. 6 by 247Sports and the 6-foot-6 wing showed why North Carolina offered earlier this week. It took him some time to get going, but once the beastly scorer got going, he was impossible to stop as he scored 19 of his game high 30 in the second half. He bombed from deep, bounced through contact at the rim and played some serious grown man basketball."
Livingston received his offer from North Carolina earlier in the week and the Akron, Ohio native is clearly making a name for himself in this recruitment. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Livingston is one of the top recruits in 2022 and UNC getting involved could change things for his recruitment.
The Tar Heels should be players in this recruitment for the long haul.
As for Dillingham, he’s playing for Team CP3 and finished with 25-points in the loss but had a shot at hitting the game-winning three-pointer as well:
"Had his buzzer beating attempt at a game winning three gone down, 2023 five-star Robert Dillingham of the CP3 16U team would have likely gone viral because of the way he immediately turned to the bench to celebrate because, why not? The shot didn’t fall, but that doesn’t take anything away from how electric the point guard was with the ball in his hands. Point blank, he’s a scoring machine who attacks, attacks, attacks. He gets hot from deep, finds ways to the rim and is as fun a player to watch as there is in America. He finished with 25 and was a big part of a spirited effort by a CP3 team playing with just five players (flight issues) against a loaded Team Durant 16U team. Florida, Kansas, North Carolina and others have offered."
Dillingham was the first prospect in the 2023 class to receive and offer from North Carolina, getting one on Christmas in 2020. He’s clearly their top priority in the 2023 class and landing a big in-state talent like him would get them off to a great start.
