The 2021 college basketball recruiting class is coming to a close here in the next few weeks as recruits will find their college destination for the 2021-22 season. For the UNC Basketball program, they have two players committed in the 2021 class as it’s the unofficial first under Hubert Davis.

Both D’Marco Dunn and Dontrez Styles offered their verbal commitment back in 2020, signing their national letter of intent as well as staying committed after the coaching change. And the Tar Heels are hoping that both can make an impact right away.

On Wednesday, ESPN released their final updated class of 2021 top 100 recruiting rankings as the cycle comes to a close and both Tar Heels’ recruits were listed.

Dunn led the way as the four-star shooting guard earned a 85 grade and a ranking of No. 47 overall. He’s also ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina per the ESPN updated rankings.

Following Dunn is Styles as the small forward earned a four-star ranking, a grade of 84 and a No. 63 overall ranking. The Kinston native is the No. 3 player in the state of North Carolina, giving the Tar Heels two big in-state talents.

Of the top 100, just seven recruits are uncommitted as it stands here in late April including a potential Tar Heels’ target in 6-foot-11 center Efton Reid, a five-star prospect that is ranked No. 18 overall. The Tar Heels have shown interest in Reid over time and he was set to make his decision last week before postponing it at the 11th hour. It’s unclear if UNC is showing serious interest in Reid right now, but they do have an open scholarship available and a need in the paint.

If UNC could somehow land him, they would see their class ranking increase for the 2021 class.
