4-star prospect talks recruiting, scholarship offer from UNC basketball program

Newly-appointed UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis got the first two recruiting wins of his young tenure with the Tar Heels last week when he received commitments from former Virginia Cavaliers power forward Justin McKoy and Oklahoma senior transfer Brady Manek.

Now, Davis is looking to get ahold of one of the nation’s top front court prospects in 6-foot-9, 205-pound Issac Traudt. A power forward out of Grand Island, Nebraska, Traudt became a hot name on the recruiting trail over the past year, picking up a large and distinguished portion of his 30 scholarship offers in that time.

Among the schools to offer Traudt are Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Virginia and Wisconsin. North Carolina, in particular, is one of the programs that Traudt says is recruiting him the hardest.

He recently spoke to Stockrisers’ Jake Weingarten about his UNC offer, and official visits that he has coming up this summer, including one set tentatively with the Tar Heels.

"“I was really excited about the offer from North Carolina and obviously one of the best programs in the history of basketball,” Traudt said. “There’s been a ton of guys out of there that have succeeded at the next level and they always have a great coaching staff. . .As of now, we have an official visit set up with Virginia from June 11th through the 13th. We also have one with Michigan State from June 17th through the 19th. We’re also most likely going to North Carolina for an official visit and we might add a few more in June. Probably 3-4 in June.”"

Traudt also said that he has an unofficial visit with the Creighton Blue Jays set for early June, as well as a few more around that same time frame with schools near his home town in Nebraska. As of now, he plans to make a college commitment some time during his senior year.

Traudt is the No. 50 prospect in the 247Sports Composite for 2022. He’s the ninth-ranked power forward on the class, and No. 1 in the state of Nebraska.
