UNC Baseball: Austin Love named ACC Pitcher of the Week
Redshirt sophomore Austin Love earned ACC honors after his stellar pitching performance on opening day.
On Monday, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced their first weekly baseball honors for the 2021 regular season.
The UNC baseball program was represented in the honors, as Austin Love was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week.
On opening day against James Madison, Love was absolutely brilliant. The redshirt sophomore pitched six no-hit innings to help lead the Tar Heels to their first victory of the season.
Over his six innings of work, Love allowed just two baserunners (both via walks). The right-hander struck out 9 and needed just 84 pitches to complete his outing.
Along with earning the ACC Pitcher of the Week award, Love was also nominated for the Golden Spikes Division I performance of the week award. You can vote for Love by going to the tweet below:
The Tar Heels got off to a great start, as they swept James Madison in a three-game set in Chapel Hill. Scott Forbes picked up both his first victory and series victory as the head coach of the UNC baseball program.
Love and the Tar Heels are back in action on Tuesday afternoon, as they will take on Elon in a short one-game series in Chapel Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
