After suffering a concussion in his high school team’s season opener, UNC basketball 2021 commit Dontrez Styles

The start to his senior year of high school basketball did not go as planned for UNC basketball commit Dontrez Styles.

Styles, the No. 1 rated prospect out of state of North Carolina (according to 247 Sports Composite), suffered a concussion early in Kinston’s season-opening game on January 8. The four-star small forward fell awkwardly on an alley-oop dunk attempt which led to the injury.

Fortunately, just three weeks after the injury occurred, Styles made his return to the court. In limited minutes of action, Styles recorded 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Based on social media, it appears as if Styles didn’t even miss a beat after missing an extended time of action.

Styles helped lead Kinston to a 51-47 victory over Washington. After the game, the UNC basketball commit made it know just how happy he was to return to the court.

After a very scary fall just a few weeks ago, it’s great to see Styles back on the floor and healthy. As he works his way back from his concussion, it appears that Kinston will ease him back slowly, which is good for his overall health.

Now that he’s back in action, Styles is a guy that Tar Heels fans will want to keep an eye on. As he’s one of two current commits for the Tar Heels in the Class of 2021, fans can get an early glimpse of what Styles can possibly bring to the table for the UNC basketball program in the near future.
